Playa de Amadores: A Unique Artificial Beach

Playa de Amadores, located in the warm southwest of the Costa Canaria, is an impressive artificial beach. This gem belongs to the municipality of Mogán and is located near famous tourist places such as Puerto de Mogán, Taurito and Puerto Rico.

Rest and Relaxation

In the south-west of Gran Canaria lies Playa de Amadores, a quiet beach designed for ultimate relaxation. Protected by two dams, it offers calm waters with few waves. The white and golden sand invites you to sunbathe on a lounger or float relaxed in the crystal clear water. Noise pollution due to music or sports is not permitted here. At sunset you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the neighboring island of Tenerife.

Modern and Peaceful Beach

The 800-metre-long beach at Playa de Amadores is both modern and crowded. Despite its popularity, its unique bay location and calm sea give it a true tranquillity.

Playa de Amadores is connected to the tourist center of Puerto Rico by an easily accessible one kilometer promenade. The beach is surrounded by several hotels and apartments. Thanks to its excellent service, such as sun lounger and parasol rental, paid parking and restaurants with sea views, Amadores has been awarded the Blue Flag since 2004. The beach is also easily accessible for the disabled, with water chairs, ramps, buoys and nets for safe bathing.

Playa de Amadores: A Unique Outdoor Swimming Pool

Playa de Amadores is actually one large outdoor swimming pool. The white sand initially feels a bit awkward, but you soon feel at home here. There are showers spread across the beach to rinse off the sand and salt water.

Water Paradise for Everyone

Because the beach is artificially constructed, you can walk far into the water, which is ideal for families with children. Due to the shape of the bay, there is little wave action on the beach. The location between large rocks protects the beach from the wind. The white sand and crystal clear water provide a unique blue color.

Playa de Amadores offers all-day surveillance by emergency services and police. For those who do not like to lie directly on the sand, beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent.

There is also a concrete wall where you can sunbathe without sand. Here you can swim in a seawater pool. Ball games and loud music are prohibited on the beach until 6 p.m. Furthermore, smoking is prohibited on the entire beach.

Hiking and Exploring

You can take a walk along the promenade and reach the seaside resort of Puerto Rico on foot. The beach promenade offers panoramic views of the beach. In clear weather you can even see Mount Teide, Spain’s largest volcano on the neighboring island of Tenerife.

Food and Drinks

There are numerous shops and bars for food and drinks. The restaurants right on the beach offer a variety of dishes, from tapas and snacks to extensive fish dishes. For extra luxury, visit the Amadores Beach Club. From the terrace of the Beach Club you have a beautiful view of the beach. With champagne, exclusive decor and atmosphere, it is a meeting place for everyone who is young at heart. Don’t forget to capture the beautiful sunset with your camera or smartphone.

Hotels near Playa de Amadores

I can imagine you have no interest in culture and other sights during your holiday. Only a beach holiday and preferably a hotel or flat right on the beach is your preference. How do I get to Playa de Amadores?

By car you can reach Playa de Amadores via the GC-500. If you come from Las Palmas, first take the GC-1 motorway to the Playa de Amadores exit. You can park your car in the paid parking lot nearby. As an alternative, using a taxi is definitely recommended. Public transport has provided a bus stop directly on the beach. Several buses take you from all over the island to Playa de Amadores.
